The Photographer
Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still -
Dorothea Lange
I consider myself lucky for having the chance to live in the Philippines, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Nepal... Photography was the outcome of it. Being exposed to different languages and lifestyles, I easily came to terms with diversity and immersed myself into various social norms and cultures. In 2001, my work with Young Asia Television in Colombo, Sri Lanka gave me another approach to this cultural immersion.
It was during my residence in Kathmandu in 2006 that I discovered photography. My television background greatly influenced my photographic genre and style. Employing the same discipline, I explored Kathmandu valley and the surrounding rural areas that brought about my first portfolio. Poverty had been the central theme and the harsh winter of Nepal gave it a more profound background. Photographing the local people, their situations and the environment they lived in, I attempted to combine photojournalism and fine art. I believed that it is just as important for an image to have a compelling message and to be valued for its visual artistry as well.
I currently live in San Francisco as a freelance photographer, videographer and video editor.
